One of the biggest health challenges being faced by Ukraine is HIV/AIDS - which is infecting increasing numbers of young people, in the most productive years of their lives. The Ukrainian government has been collecting HIV statistics since 1987 and as of 1 of January, 2005 the number of officially registered HIV cases in Ukraine was 74,856, including 8,477 children.
